Integration of 3 Public Safety Answering Points will improve efficiency, response times and increase officer safety.

July 13, 2011

InterAct Public Safety Systems announced today the award of a contract to consolidate multiple public safety answering points in Sweetwater County, Wyoming.

PSAP consolidation is a growing trend across public safety agencies throughout the U.S. and Sweetwater County Sheriff Rich Haskell was enthusiastic about the decision. “We’re facing many of the challenges that other counties face. Resources are stretched and budgets are limited. This installation will allow us to operate as efficiently as possible across the County to provide a superior public safety response.”

According to Sweetwater Lieutenant Rick Hawkins, “Sweetwater County is the largest county in the State of Wyoming. In fact, we’re the 8th largest county in the United States and cover more territory than 6 states in the U.S. We have to operate as efficiently as possible and this is exactly what we needed.”

The installation will include an integrated platform providing computer-aided dispatch, geographic information systems, records management, jail management and unique mobile applications integrated with all systems. “We’re excited about the whole idea, and particularly the new records management systems and the mobile capability that provides real value for all of us including our officers.” Lieutenant Hawkins said. “The ability of our officers on patrol to have real-time access to information in their vehicles or on foot is going to do a lot to increase officer safety, and make every response more efficient.”

“The move towards PSAP consolidation is a direct response to a growing population, and the increased demands of tighter budgets. We have the experience and the expertise to implement consolidation and make the systems more efficient. Said John McNulty, InterAct CEO. “This is about both saving money and working smart. Consolidation and integration within PSAP information systems provides a level of incident insight that empowers better decisions, and the most appropriate and effective response.”

McNulty was quick to praise the total team behind the upcoming implementation. “This was a great team effort not only with the agencies, but the Combined Communications Joint Power Board of Rock Springs, City of Green River and Sweetwater County, and their consultant, Technology Plus who was engaged to define requirements and develop a customized RFP to select a solution to meet the unique needs of the County.”

Howard Feingold, President of Technology Plus agreed. “The InterAct platform architecture allowed effective integration of the systems and to meet the requirements and tailor a solution to satisfy the unique needs of Sweetwater County. The result is a scalable system that Sweetwater can expand and grow without significant rework or replacement.”

Rock Springs, Wyoming Police Chief Michael Lowell appreciated the approach as well.”The new design has an intuitive interface featuring strong maps, virtualization, data sharing, and media-customization. It’s an excellent arsenal of information tools that is going to make it easier for all of us to quickly assess a situation and coordinate the best response.”

The installation of the new system is scheduled to go live at year-end.

InterAct Public Safety Systems announced today the establishment of InterAct Federal Systems to serve the unique needs of its U.S. Federal Government customers. This move will enable InterAct to continue to provide specialized solutions and support to meet the public safety requirements of its Federal Government customers.

Today, InterAct systems provide support for public safety initiatives in the Department of Interior, the Department of Justice, the U.S. Postal Service and the U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force.

This organizational expansion will enable us to broaden our services and better meet the specialized needs of the Federal Government community around the world, said Jeff Jones, SVP, InterAct Federal Systems.

In the past decade, national and international incidents have resulted in mandates requiring U.S. Federal agencies to actively participate in functions traditionally performed by local first responders.

InterAct Federal Systems will focus on Federal, DOD and Intelligence organizations who are all facing new challenges and directives. Our dedication of specialized staff and resources to this challenge is in response to the expanded responsibilities of these agencies. InterAct Federal Systems is bringing the same industry-leading software solutions and consulting practices that serve our State and Local government public safety customers to these Federal agencies along with the required specific clearances and certifications.

InterAct’s CEO, John McNulty, said, Our solutions currently help over 1,500 Public Safety agencies, on 4 continents, supporting multiple languages and disciplines.InterAct Federal Systems represents our continued expansion in the global public safety marketplace.

April 19, 2011

Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley has announced that all emergency response agencies across the state will soon be connected for all voice and data information. This effort will enable a coordinated response to all emergencies allowing Police, Fire, Emergency Medical Services and Public Safety Answering Points (911 call centers) to share real-time information as a situation occurs.

According to Governor O’Malley, “We have learned all too well the tragic lessons of the events of the last decade; from the attacks of September 11, 2001 to Hurricane Katrina. Lives can be lost or saved based on key systems and capabilities such as communications and computer aided dispatch and their ability to function under the most extreme duress. This implementation is a giant step towards the level of interoperability and communication we have committed ourselves to across the state for all public safety agencies.”

The essential system installation includes Computer Aided Dispatch, Digital Mapping connected to GPS satellite navigation, shared communication links across wired and wireless networks, and an integrated Records Management System that will allow all first responders to not only coordinate their efforts, but accurately record events in a concise and combined set of digital records.

Governor O’Malley added, “This gives us a tremendous information sharing ability. We’ve always felt that every law enforcement officer in every region across Maryland should have the ability to transmit and receive critical information from the field and with this system, they will. Importantly, the information exchange will occur on a real-time basis.

According to Ray Lehr, State Interoperability Director, “The Statewide CAD/RMS system will give state and local first responders critical information directly, without dispatchers having to make calls to other agencies. This is essential to getting the right information to those who need it as quickly as possible. In these times of limited resources, it’s more essential than ever that we share resources with each other.

InterAct’s CEO, John McNulty, said, “Maryland is a benchmark for the future of public safety. I’m proud that we were able to scale our solutions to their needs, adapt to their legacy systems and offer flexible options across the state to create a total solution for both interoperability and consolidation of agency systems.”

Mark Fetherolf, InterAct’s CTO added, The Computer Aided Dispatch or CAD serves as the primary foundation for the implementation. We’ve developed a next-generation CAD system that we feel will help Maryland achieve the goals the Governor set forth.” The Governor summarized his position this way, ” At the state and local level the tools and information sharing systems that law enforcement needs on a daily basis to combat drug trafficking and violent crimes should be and are the same tools needed to detect and prevent acts by terrorists within our own shores. How we coordinate our efforts across all agencies will define the success of our first responders in serving and protecting the residents of the great state of Maryland.”

The installation through InterAct Public Safety Systems has already begun with the Notice-to-proceed awarded on January 3, 2011. According to Fetherolf, “We came in with what we felt was a fresh approach and an open mind. We knew it was important to design a solution that worked with existing legacy systems and to create an interface that would work across agencies and future installations.”
